Hard Angular Contact Ball Bearings

Angular contact ball bearings are specifically designed to accommodate combined loads, i.e., simultaneously acting radial and axial loads. The ability to withstand axial loads increases with the contact angle α. The contact angle is defined as the angle between the common normal line at the point of contact (or midpoint of the contact line) between the rolling element and raceway, and the radial plane of the bearing. Loads are transmitted along this line from one raceway to the other. For single-row bearings, the contact angle can be identified by different suffix codes.

    Structural Features of Single-Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings

    Single-row angular contact ball bearings can only withstand axial loads acting in one direction. Under radial loads, an axial force is generated within the bearing, which must be counteracted by an opposing force. Therefore, these bearings typically require a second bearing for balance. Single-row angular contact ball bearings can accommodate more balls, providing higher load-carrying capacity.

    Contact angles are available in three variants

    · 15° (suffix code C)

    · 25° (suffix code AC)

    · 40° (suffix code B)

    Single-row angular contact ball bearings are classified into non-separable and separable types. Non-separable bearings are further divided into standard, high-speed, and ultra-high-speed series for different applications. Separable bearings (inner and outer rings can be installed separately) are used in components with limited installation space, such as magnetos, and are also referred to as magneto bearings.

    Cages for Separable Bearings (Magneto Bearings)

    · Primarily use glass fiber-reinforced nylon 66 molded cages.

    · Stamped brass cages are available upon request.

    Bearings with glass fiber-reinforced nylon 66 molded cages are suitable for most applications and can operate normally within a temperature range of -30°C to +120°C.

    Four-Point Contact Ball Bearings

    Four-point contact ball bearings are a type of single-row angular contact ball bearing with raceways designed to accommodate bidirectional axial loads. These bearings require less axial space compared to double-row bearings. The four-point contact ball bearings listed in the table below have a contact angle of 35°. The inner ring is split into two halves, allowing for a larger number of balls and thus higher load capacity. The bearings are separable, meaning the two halves of the inner ring and the outer ring with the ball and cage assembly can be installed separately.

    Double-Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings

    Double-row angular contact ball bearings are designed similarly to two single-row angular contact ball bearings arranged back-to-back. However, their width is slightly less than two single-row bearings, and the contact angle is 30°. These bearings offer high rigidity, can withstand tilting moments, and are non-separable. Available design types include:

    1. With a filling slot on one side: This design allows for larger and more balls, enabling higher radial and unidirectional axial load capacity. Typically uses stamped steel or machined brass solid cages. Suitable for low-speed applications.

    2. Without a filling slot: This design can accommodate bidirectional axial loads of equal magnitude. Uses glass fiber-reinforced nylon 66 cages or stamped steel crown cages, resulting in minimal heat generation and lower operating temperatures. This advantage is particularly important for high-speed operation.

    3. With shields or seals: Available with shields (non-contact) or seals (contact) on one or both sides. These sealed bearings are pre-filled with rust-preventive and lubricating grease (lithium-based #2 grease unless otherwise specified). Operating temperature range: -30°C to +100°C. They are permanently lubricated and require no maintenance.

    Important Notes

    · Do not heat or clean before installation.

    · Bearings with shields are primarily suitable for inner ring rotation. If the outer ring rotates at speeds exceeding certain limits, grease may leak.

    · For bearings with seals on both sides, the sealing lips contact grooves on the inner ring shoulders. The seals are made of oil-resistant and wear-resistant synthetic rubber, reinforced with steel sheets. The permissible operating temperature for seals is -40°C to +120°C.

    · The seals are clamped into grooves on the outer ring shoulders, providing a deformation-free seal. The sealing lips exert slight pressure on the inner ring. Under extreme conditions (e.g., very high speeds or temperatures), grease may leak from the inner ring. If grease leakage is unacceptable for the application, special design measures may be required."
